Technology in the future- Moore’s Law

Gordon E. Moore, Co-Founder of Intel corporation predicted that the value of computing technology would increase, whereas its cost would decrease in future. He also stated that the transistors will doubly occupy the space given every year and the innovations in technology would increase the speed of those transistors, rather than the cost involving in manufacturing of those.

A computer transistor acts like a small electronic switch. Just like the light switch on your wall, a transistor has only two states, On or Off. A computer interprets this on/off state as a 1 or a 0. Put a whole bunch of these transistors together and you have a computer chip. Intel’s newest processor has nearly 1 billion transistors.

Future technology not only makes chips smaller, but faster. The benefit involved in clubbing transistors together is that the time taken to travel between transistors by electronic pulses are very less thus increasing the integral speed of the chip.

As all the laws, this law also has various limitations. Gordon Moore stated in an interview that the law cannot be sustained indefinitely: “It can’t continue forever. The nature of exponentials is that you push them out and eventually disaster happens” and noted that transistors would eventually reach the limits of miniaturization at atomic levels
